More than fifty years ago, Dr. Ida Rolf recognized that the body is inherently a system of seamless networks of tissues rather than a collection of separate parts. These connective tissues surround, support and penetrate all of the muscles, bones, nerves and organs. Rolfing Structural Integration works on this web-like complex of connective tissues to release, realign and balance the whole body, thus potentially resolving discomfort, reducing compensations and alleviating pain. Rolfing SI aims to restore flexibility, revitalize your energy and leave you feeling more comfortable in your body.

Essentially, the Rolfing process enables the body to regain the natural integrity of its form, thus enhancing postural efficiency and your freedom of movement.

Distortions of body structure are primarily caused by responses to life experiences that engender habitual ways of perceiving and moving in the world. A Rolf Movement practitioner helps the client become aware of her current perceptual and movement responses. Client and practitioner then explore the sensations of freer and more fluid motion during breathing, walking, bending, lifting and other simple daily movements. Through further sensory-motor experiencing, the client learns to embody the qualities of efficient and graceful movement during more complex activities in work or leisure environments. By perpetuating balanced body use, the client fully embodies her Rolfing experience.
